What you can catch
Largemouth bass are the headline, but the lake is also famous for black crappie, which Florida anglers call specks. Bluegill and other sunfish are plentiful, and catfish are common too.
The lake in a nutshell
Okeechobee covers roughly 730 square miles and is shallow for its size, so wind can build real waves quickly. Weed beds, reeds and grass lines hold much of the fish, and the water level and the weather change where they are.
Planning your trip
Pick a launch that matches your boat and the wind. A big lake can make a short run feel long, so watch the forecast before you leave the ramp. Live bait and tackle are easy to find around the lake, and the bait shops listed on the lake page can tell you what is working this week.

The Lake Okeechobee page has the launches, bait shops, limits and what is biting by month. If you fish it, post a fishing report so the next angler knows what is working.
Always wear a life jacket, carry the safety equipment your boat requires, and check the weather before you go. Creel limits, seasons and rules change, and the state's current rules always control. Check your state's wildlife agency before you fish.
