How to Set Up the Drop-shot rig

The diagram shows how the pieces sit on the line. Follow the steps in order.

1. Tie a Palomar knot to a size 1 or 1/0 drop-shot hook, pushing the tag end back through the eye so the hook points up.
2. Leave a 12-24 inch tag end below the hook, longer over weeds or deep water.
3. Clip a 1/4-3/8 oz weight on the end of the tag.
4. Hook a 4-6 inch soft plastic through the nose.
5. Lower to the bottom, keep the line tight, and shake the rod tip gently.
6. Move the weight along slowly, sometimes pausing.
